​MEET Lori Dunn

 

Lori is the current President-Elect for the newly formed SHAPE America Western District and has been involved with WAHPERD/NWD AAHPERD/AAHPERD, now operating as SHAPE America, for the past twenty plus years and has served in many leadership positions for the organization. Lori believes in giving back to the community in many capacities. Lori was a technical reviewer for the Comprehensive School Physical Education Program (CSPAP) document which now is guiding school policy and reforms nationwide. Lori is currently serving on the Pacific Northwest USTA Board of Directors. Lori received and directed two (2004-2007, Renton School District, Renton, Washington and 2011-2014 Seattle Public Schools, Seattle Washington) Carol M. White, Physical Education for Progress (PEP) Grants, and numerous other grants totaling over 5 million dollars.

Lori is the PreK-12 Physical and Health Literacy Program Manager for Seattle Public Schools since 2007. In this position, Lori is responsible for providing curriculum, supervision, mentoring, and assessment providing professionals services related to teaching and teacher education in physical education, health literacy and grant writing in a district of over 54,000 students, supporting over 150 plus physical education specialists. In 2016, Lori was awarded the SHAPE America "Channing Mann" Administrator of the Year Award and in 2014 was inducted as a Fellow for Professional Excellence sponsored by AAHPERD. Lori was the 2006 NASPE National High School Physical Education Teacher of the Year and continues to give numerous presentations that address promoting and advocating for effective physical education programs and ALL allied fields at the local, state, and national level.

Lori's career began at Eastern Washington University with a BA in Physical Education and a minor in Health Education where she was a scholarship student-athlete. She received her Masters degree from Azusa Pacific University in Administration, Guidance, and Counseling. Lori holds certificates in K-12 Teaching, Guidance and Counseling, Principal, Program Manager, and Superintendent.

​MEET Jessica Shawley

 

Jessica is a SHAPE America National Middle School Teacher of the Year and National Board Certified (NBCT) physical education teacher. She has an M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Idaho and her undergraduate degree in Health & Fitness was earned while playing collegiate softball at Whitworth University. Jessica is also a nationally recognized educational speaker and professional development trainer in her field. She is well known for her high-energy workshops that are jam-packed with resources to support and inspire professionals. 

​

She has served in several leadership capacities, including the Northwest District SHAPE America leadership council and on the SHAPE Idaho board for over 8 years in roles as President, Conference Manager, and District Representative. Jessica has been honored with the SHAPE America Mabel Lee Award and Northwest District Honor Award both recognizing her years of service and contributions to the profession.

Excelling in grant writing, Jessica helped secure over $1 million in funding for K-12 physical education in her district. Her school leadership roles include fostering school wellness and a Comprehensive School Physical Activity Program through initiatives such as Fuel Up to Play 60 and Active Schools. Jessica is also a past youth sport coach and her hobbies include anything active that provides fun with friends and family...especially golfing and biking in the LC valley.
